I’ve just finished a very cute forest nymph that I want to share with you. She was a lot of fun to draw and although I hit a few stumbling blocks along the way, that’s always a part of the challenge.
I am willing to share my work in progress with you as well as showing you the parts I struggled with as I think it’s important to realize that just because something doesn’t always come easy, doesn’t mean it isn’t worth working through as the end result is truly worth it. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as the final result.

The Spring Fairy.
I thought I would show you the work in progress for my Spring Fairy. I think it is important to see how a work evolves and that sometimes things need to change along the way. Obviously, the best would be to start off right away with the best composition and concept. Especially if you are a person, like me, who is not as disciplined as I could be, having a great foundation often saves me as I tend to get really concentrated on one area and then if my base is not good, I hate to lose all the work I have done. If you have to change the entire composition. then you may as well start all over from the beginning as it will not work well. Not only will you struggle, but so many things will need to be changed to make it work that it will look contrived and unnatural. It’s a bit like renovating an old house.. so much harder than tearing it all down and starting from the ground up. You need a good base. Some things though, if not too fiddly can be fixed and changed. You cannot allow yourself to be too rigid , as your work and creativity may suffer.

This is an image of the mermaid, Lea. I’ll be showing you the steps I took to illustrate her starting from scratch up to the final image.
I hope you enjoy seeing how I develop a piece from A to Z.

To start off with I don’t want to work with a white background simply because if there is any part that is not completely covered, it will show up white and alsoI want something behind that when colors are added that have transparency, it will give a sense of depth. To start this image, I used a very dark blue yet not quite black background.

Crazy time to be doing this, but better now than never… going to be about my art mostly fairies and of her kind. There may be a few other thing mixed in, but mostly my fairies, pixies etc., I will be showing my works in progress, making this something that may actually be interesting to visit and perhaps inspire others who may want to try their hand at fantasy artwork.
